Let private hospitals also be under government supervision

Madurai Bench of the high court, private hospital, under government supervision,

Tamil Nadu:

It is worth noting the displeasure expressed by the Madurai bench of the High Court on the corona treatment charges of private hospitals.

The court made this observation in a case filed to ascertain whether the fees fixed by the Government of Tamil Nadu were collected in private hospitals and half of the beds of private hospitals as instructed by the government were reserved for those infected with corona. Apart from treatment charges, it is urgently important for the Government of Tamil Nadu to closely monitor and take action against the sale of life saving medicines on the black market.

As announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu in June 2020, those undergoing corona treatment in the intensive care unit of private hospitals should be charged a maximum of Rs.15,000 per day. Let private hospitals also be under government supervision.
It is worth noting the displeasure expressed by the Madurai bench of the High Court on the corona treatment charges of private hospitals.

Moreover, in many cities outside Chennai, there is a practice of inpatient inpatient milking of thousands of people and pushing more people to government hospitals. In this context, the Government of Tamil Nadu should ensure that this announcement based on the goodwill of the Government of Tamil Nadu that ‘corona treatment will also be provided in private hospitals under cm’s comprehensive insurance scheme’ does not become a trump card for the hunt of private hospitals.

The supply and price of life-saving medicines should be monitored regularly. Since a full curfew has been declared, efforts should be stepped up to bring life-saving medicines to all districts as soon as possible. The sale of remtesivar drugs on the black market should be prevented. Arrangements have been made for availability of remtesivar medicines at five centres viz., Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli to reduce the vagaries of the people.

One more important thing is to give full impetus to try all alternative medical procedures from Siddha to Acupuncture in the treatment of 95% of corona infections who need intensive care. When such an effort is allowed, some common definitions of access to patients should also be laid down. We can get a grip from anywhere to face the challenges we face in relation to Corona. The opportunities should not be locked up.
