To the credit of Indian Railways, a 100th 12B engine with 12,000 horsepower was incorporated. The engine is named The Wagon 12B with the number 60100.The engine is manufactured by Madhepura Electric Locomotive Pvt Ltd. The iGPD-based, state-of-the-day, 3-stage engine has a capacity of 12,000 horsepower.
As the speed and efficiency of freight trains improve, engines with this level of horsepower will help reduce congestion on traffic-heavy routes.
They can carry a commodity of up to 25 tonnes at a speed of 120 kmph. These high power engines are manufactured under Make in India.
These engines will effectively transform the transport of coal trains of the exclusive freight corridor. These can be monitored through GPS. Engines of this type have taken various items to 17 States and 2 Union Territories and have crossed 4.8 million kilometres so far.
