The police have registered a case under five sections against six members of the Kisan Social Army after the woman’s family lodged a complaint with the police station on the video statement of the young woman.
Regarding the sexual assault of the woman activist, the leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha Agricultural Association said, “We investigated the matter when it first came to our notice. The tents where the men were staying have been removed and they have been protested. It has been advised to keep them out of the struggle.”
However, women’s organisations said of the incident, “Samyukta Kisan Morcha leaders were aware of the sexual assault of a young girl beforehand. But I don’t know why they’ve been keeping their peace all these days. We were also denied permission to meet the girl’s parents in person.
Such bitter incidents disrupt the nature of the struggle at a time when the farmers are genuinely struggling with the sun and rain with the highest intentions.”
Speaking about the horrific incident, the city police officer said, “Under DSP surveillance, a team of three inspectors is searching for the culprits. Cyber cell help has also been sought. The case has been registered against four persons.
The sexual assault of a young woman on the ground, where thousands of people, irrespective of male and female, have been protesting for months has left all farmers deeply dissatisfied and shocked.
