The Union Minister expressed confidence that the ambitious target of $400 billion in exports will be carried out by this year.
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and top officials of the Directorate General of Commerce and Foreign Trade today attended a meeting with export promotion committees and discussed various issues related to international trade.
The Minister appreciated the excellent performance of exporters in such challenging moments as well. He noted that India’s trade exports were USD 30.21 billion in April 2021, 197.03 per cent higher than USD 10.17 billion in April 2020 and 16.03 per cent over USD 26.04 billion in April 2019.
Similarly, in the first week of May 2021, exports were valued at 9% higher than the same period in 2019-20, the Minister said. He said exports of other goods, apart from petroleum, oil and lubricants, had increased by 15% over the last year during this period.
The Minister said that the performance of exports in April 2021 and 2020-21 has given hope of an ambitious target of $400 billion by this year. He said there was a lot of potential to improve exports in various sectors including pharmaceuticals, engineering, auto parts, fisheries, agricultural products etc.
